Book Review: Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan

Book Review: Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan Quote: He leans in and kisses. He says he's missed me too. I know this is right. I know he's not going to be amazing all the time, but there's more amazingness in him than in anyone else I've known. He makes me want to be amazing too. June was an interesting month, I read up various kinds of books from non-fiction to rom-com to writing for children despite my lack of reviews here. I wanted to do a pride month reading list, but I got occupied. So I want to end the month with an LGBTQIA book. Paul grew up gay in a town that's accepting, where the gender boundaries have blurred. The homecoming queen is star Quarterback and a drag-queen by day. Paul is popular, loved and has two best friends Joni the quintessential girl best friend prone to fall for red-flag boys, and Tony a gay boy living with his conservative family. And there is Kyle Paul's ex-boyfriend Paul meets Noah in a bookstore, a newbie sophom...

Graphic Novel Review: Habibi by Craig Thompson

Graphic Novel Review: Habibi by Craig Thompson Quote: -afloat on the ocean of sand. The desert is a graveyard for man and beast and man-made refuse. Habibi found this stranded boat and we made it our home. Lot of 'nothings' happen at the same time in this mockepic 600 plus pages hardbound graphic novel! It's dipped in orientalism that's exoticized to the point of melodrama. A wide-eyed fair-skinned girl child, Dodala is sold to marriage for water, from one master to another she is raped and abused and consumed like a commodity. She runs away with a toddler boy slave, Zam, of African origin and eventually they are separated by Sultan's scavengers. The art is ambitious but the story a failure. In an imaginary middle-eastern country, Wanatolia, where all the stereotypical notions about Arab world gets illustrated. The pot-bellied lusty sultan with golden harem and private zoo, the hairy legged broad shoulder gold chain wea...

Book Review: Tithe a Modern Faerie Tale by Holly Black.

Book Review: Tithe a Modern Faerie Tale by Holly Black. Quote: Her hands felt very cold as she remembered the diner. What would it be like to be a puppet? What would it be like to watch your own hands disobey you? A book title I was pronouncing wrong for almost a decade now! I found Holly Black before I found Neil Gaiman, at the age of 15. Since then I have been trying to read stories she had written. Tithe is the story of a sixteen-year-old, Kaye, a blonde American-Japanese girl. Who grew up in clubs and pubs cleaning after her unsuccessful rock singer mom. Holly Black never sighs away from showing the dark, not so innocent and messed up world of teens. Kaye has dropped out of school, she smokes, she makes out, she works to keep her two unit family functional, and once she had friends from the faerie realm. The story takes a shift when her mom's boyfriend turns homicidal and they move back to her grandmother's. Kaye's life turns weird soon, she saves...

Webcomic Review: Fools by Yeongha and Bagdam

Webcomic Review: Fools by Yeongha and Bagdam Quote: If this were a relationship between a male and a female, wouldn't it be safe to assume that we were 100% attracted to each other? But because I'm a male and just an underclassman, Eungi Hyung would never consider anything like that, would he? Fools is a Korean Webtoon written by Yeongha and adorably illustrated by Bagdam. A weepy and heartbroken teen Choi Jeongwoo meets Kwon Enugi one night, where the latter ends up comforting and advising the teen.  A few years later, Jeongwoo is a freshman in the university where Enugi has returned for his final year after completing his military service. By the twist of fate they end up having breakfast tog...

Attempted Flash Fiction:- belongs to rightful owner, PC- Google There are days when I fall under spells; today was one freshly lit afternoon that had charmed me. I was seated on my coarse blue seat and looking out of the window. I was under two spells. My feet rested on the empty seat opposite to mine, my black slippers cowering under its vacant space in the shadows. The green outside was rushing past my vision and the sunlight was making it hard for my eyes to keep staring outside for long. It was one of those days when rain had wiped off the dirt from sky and the smell of wet earth was numbing all other senses except the olfactory glands. My fellow passenger on right was fast asleep; her toes curled in dreams, her knees pulled to her swollen chest and her face half hidden in white dupataa, blocking the sunlight. As the train kept gushing on her tracks, I saw her body getting swayed softly on the blue berth. The mauve kurta and jeans she was in highlighted her outlin...

Fool I shall be....

Hamlet said ‘Words Words and Words’ I would say Discourse Discourse and Discourses. All of a sudden my life is a reaction that is created between two separating atoms. The Other that was never conscious in me has began to challenge my alter ego. My simple carefree life has become complex all with change of location. I was a female once, I became a feminist female years later, I became an out and proud queer person, I have no accent, I have no mother tongue, I have no location. Am I a cosmopolitan or am I the eternal other that brings chaos to world? I feel like Hamlet a fool on the stage of world theater. Few days back I called the most important man in my life barking out all my problems and trouble on to his ears. The conversation with him made me realise with each passing day, I am gaining moments of epiphanies. These epiphanies are true to their name, they neither make me happy nor sad. They simply produce another thought process in my mind.  A shared train jour...

Black Wednesday for the Rainbow Sheep: LBGT Betrayed by Section 377

In July 2009 whole LBGT community of India was flying the rainbow flag. The rainbow sheep of nations had finally found that the  Section 377 was  overthrown , which had termed same-sex relation a as criminal offense. Two adults the of same gender had the permission to indulge in a physical relationship if the feelings were mutual. But today 11-december-2013 marks as the Black Wednesday for the rainbow community. Whole nation has witnessed the betrayal we faced in name of saving society. World’s largest democracy failed in its basic promise- equality. The law said: “ Today's order means gay sex between consenting adults stays a criminal offence under Section 377, a 19th century law banning sex "against the order of nature ” The law which decriminalized same-sex relation was strongly opposed by religious groups, particularly leaders of India's Muslim and Christian communities. Various self-proclaimed Goodman and Saints from Hinudism were all in praise of...

Still not wiser.

(Here we are, my reader friends and me, we have come to the second anniversary of our dear blog. What started out as my complain page and random quest of words on 2nd October 2011 has become a very integral part of me. Last year I celebrated the girl bonding and having a great day with my major mate to celebrate first anniversary of the blog. But this year exam is killing me from doing anything. My Batman Journal is still waiting for me to pen it. I may not have achieved the desired effect on my readers. I still fail to see unknown and new followers of my blog. I really and badly want people to read my words. So I promise to work better with my writings. What begun as pleasure writing has opened various path for me. I have become a fan fiction writer, I share my thoughts on Migzing.com and I finally may have found the one thing I am good at. Today I have nothing to share in particular, but since I am two decades old I have twenty pearls of wisdom to share. Let’s Enlighten Each ot...
